What do you get when you take an Asian American and toss him into a nationwide comedy competition broadcast on a nation television network? You get the "Last Comic Standing" - Dat Phan. And now that Dat has won the competition, he and his Internet PR representative, Eddie Phanichkul (who also is a writer and musician), are changing the landscape of comedy, TV and film.

In this A-Profiler, we managed to get a short spare moment with Dat Phan and Eddie Phanichkul to find out more about what makes them who they are.

What do you do in order to find new material for your routine?
I watch life happen. Most of my routine is taken from my daily life, or my family.

How did it feel to be the last comic standing?
Unbelievable. I couldn't believe it, I was shocked. You can see it in the footage. I jumped back. It changed my life.

Best comedian out there today?
There are many Level 10 comics out there. I really admire Pablo Francisco and Dane Cook. I also like Zach Galifianakis. Those are great comics.

Dat PhanWhat are you currently working on?
What aren't I working on? I just did a voice for the new Family Guy series and right now I'm writing new material and working out, auditioning for movies and meeting people and still doing shows across America. Eddie Phanichkul also might have a cartoon coming up or something. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it.

Is your comedy routine patterned after anyone?
I don't know if it's patterned after anyone. I just go out there and give it my full energy—fun for the whole family. Or maybe just me.

What was your parents' initial reaction when you told them you wanted to be a comedian?
You want the bit I do or their actual reaction? Actually it's the same thing. My mom wanted me to be a doctor or something other Asians do.

What makes Dat Phan tick?
Would it make you mad if I said ticks? Just kidding. I really despise dishonesty and flakes. I think you'll find that I'm a pretty patient guy, but when people consistently miss appointments or lie to my face, I really don't like it.

What is your most embarrassing moment?
I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

If you weren't doing comedy what would you be doing?
I think working at Best Buy. I love technology. I'm one of those, what do you call it? Not what Michael Jackson is-- but oh yeah, Techno-phile.

That was a joke, I don't think Michael Jackson isn't a pedophile, unless he's proven guilty.

Do you think Asian Americans are well represented in the comedy circle?
Asian Americans still have a long way to go in the mainstream media, but I think we're represented very well by the big name Asian comics. I do wish there were more Asians out there in the Entertainment industry who were big names and not just because of some form of martial art form.

Finish this sentence: If I can do it over again I would...
I'd do all over again. There's no doubt in my mind.

Favorite Vietnamese dish?
Pho, of course.

Which came first the spring roll or the egg roll?
What kind of question is this? I'm really confused now. Eddie Phanichkul says he hates spring rolls. There is nothing spring about them.

What Vietnamese traditions do you still follow?
I don't know if there are any Vietnamese traditions that I follow.

In 8 words or less can you describe Eddie Phanichkul.
Eddie Phanichkul: Amazing in bed.

Do people have trouble pronouncing your last name?
All the time. People think Dat Phan's my older brother, but in reality, our last names are from different countries and mine is pronounced with a "P" sound, not an "F."

Favorite movie of all time?
I love movies. Tim Burton's Batman is one of my all-time favorite movies. I also like romantic comedies and indie flicks.

Since you play the guitar do you do any singing? Have you sang in public or serenaded any ladies?
I play guitar frequently at a coffee shop doing the singer/songwriter thing as well as in a band time to time. As for serenading ladies, no girl has ever thrown her bra up on stage yet—wait, that did happen once.

Any specific words that you live by?
Does "Pour Some Sugar on Me" by Def Leopard count?

What are you currently working on?
I'm working on a children's book, an adult-themed animation called "The Jonezes" and doing what I love to do, write screenplays—that and dealing with Dat Phan's Internet publicity stuff.

What emotions do you get out of watching Aqua Team Hunger Force?
How'd you know I watched that? It's one of my favorite Adult Swim cartoons. I think the emotions covered are love, lethargicness, satisfaction, hatred, ambivalence and then love again.

How did you and Dat Phan meet?
We met through a fellow performer named America. Dat was still doing comedy gigs and living in a cramped studio up in LA.

It looks like you have many different talents like writing, comedy, playing the guitar, etc. - which one of these roles satisfies you the most?
I think playing guitar and writing. There's nothing like it. I feel free to create and develop my talent without restrictions.

Is a comedy club a great place to pick up women instead of the usual bar/club scene?
Try the Hollywood Improv's Chopschtick Show. All my white friends are all about picking up on Asian girls. I don't think comedy clubs are great places to pick up on girls though—they are a great date place though.

How many languages do you speak and what are the languages?
I speak English fluently and a little Thai. I can also understand Spanish and American Sign Language.

Women generally love a man with a French accent; do you believe the Asian accent is regarded the same way?
Let me put it this way, would you get turned on if I said "Hey babe, hand me that stick of butter" with an Asian accent? Say it in French and you can get a date any night of the week.

Did your parents have any influence on your career?
My parents are hard working people, creative and intelligent. Then something happened and they became old and started complaining about everything. I hope that doesn't happen to me.

How would you describe your comedic style?
I'm pretty dry, yet witty. You have to be intelligent to get my comedy... That or balls-out geeky. Think about all the jokes you didn't get on Futurama or Family Guy... I got them.

Thanks for doing the interview any words you want to be remember by?
I feel like this is the interview you get to put in the year book senior year of high school. I went back and re-read my senior quotes. It was so lame. So I'm going to just say, ask me again in 5-10 years.
